In what amounted to a victory speech in the early morning hours on Wednesday, President Donald Trump angered liberals as he touted wins in several swing states whose vote counts had yet to be completed. Trump said that he would not hesitate to sue and bring cases to the Supreme Court over disputed late ballots, telling supporters that a “very sad group of people” were trying their best to steal the election out from under them.

In remarks from the White House, Trump was simultaneously grateful and defiant.

“I want to thank the American people for their tremendous support. Millions and millions of people voted for us tonight and a very sad group of people is trying to disenfranchise that group of people and we will not stand for it,” Trump said. “We won’t stand for it.”

Joe Biden’s campaign manager quickly released a statement rejecting the president’s comments.

“He does not decide the outcome of this election,” said Jen O’Malley Dillon. “Joe Biden does not decide the outcome of this election. The American people decide the outcome of this election. And the democratic process must and will continue until its conclusion.”

While the underlying results of the election were still unknown as of mid-morning on Wednesday, Trump does have a certain kind of bragging rights – he did far better than the fake news pollsters predicted. With big wins in Florida, Ohio, Iowa, and Texas, Trump once again proved that the era of accurate public opinion polling is over. There’s either something fundamentally wrong with their models, something specifically difficult about polling support for Trump, or something fishy going on with these pollsters; i.e., they’re trying to make results rather than predict them. Whatever the case may be, it’s going to be tough for anyone to take these polls seriously in the future.

“We won states we weren’t expecting to win,” Trump said. “Florida, we didn’t win it, we won it by a lot. We won the great state of Ohio, we won Texas. It is also clear that we have won Georgia. They’re never gonna catch us. They can’t catch us.”

Trump said that he wasn’t surprised to see elements of deceit in states like Pennsylvania, reminding supporters that he’d predicted a long legal battle over the election.

“I’ve been saying this since the day I heard there would be tens of millions of ballots sent,” he said. “This is a fraud on the American public. This is an embarrassment on our country. We were getting ready to win the election, frankly, we did win this election. We’ll be going to the U.S. Supreme Court. We want all voting to stop. We don’t want them to find any ballots at 4:00 in the morning and add them to the list.

“It’s a very sad moment. To me, this is a very sad moment, and we will win this,” he continued. “As far as I’m concerned, we already have won it.”
