Twitter came under fire this week for outright censoring a New York Post story revealing that Joe Biden either met with or was going to meet with an executive at the Ukrainian energy company that his son worked for during his vice presidency. The story, which was certainly more substantiated than many of the anti-Trump stories that have polluted the mainstream media over the last five years, got reporters, celebrities, and even the White House press secretary temporarily suspended from Twitter – that’s how certain the leftists who run the site are that there is nothing to the reporting.

Or, to put it another way, that’s how desperate our Silicon Valley masters are to avoid tarnishing the Biden campaign in the last few weeks before the election.
Users who tweeted out a link to the story on Wednesday were treated to this message: “We can’t complete this request because this link has been identified by Twitter or our partners as being potentially harmful. Visit our Help Center to learn more.”
In a tweet of his own, the New York Post’s Noah Manskar wrote: “The Post’s primary Twitter account (@nypost) has also been locked because the Hunter Biden stories violate its rules against ‘distribution of hacked material.’ Twitter says this was done because of the lack of authoritative reporting on where the materials in our Biden story originated. Per the story, the emails came off a copy of a hard drive obtained by Rudy Giuliani; original hard drive was left at a Delaware computer repair shop.”
After a wave of criticism from social media users, President Donald Trump, and even some on Capitol Hill, Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey released a semi-apology for the way the whole mess was handled.
“Our communication around our actions on the @nypost article was not great. And blocking URL sharing via tweet or DM with zero context as to why we’re blocking: unacceptable,” he tweeted.
Of course, there is really no amount of “context” that would have made Twitter’s actions okay, which is a point Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) made in a tweet of his own.
“@jack this is not nearly good enough. In fact, it’s a joke,” Hawley wrote. “It’s downright insulting. I will ask you – and @Facebook – to give an explanation UNDER OATH to the Senate subcommittee I chair. These are potential violations of election law, and that’s a crime.”

Facts are facts, and the fact is that Twitter allowed Trump/Russia nonsense to circulate freely on their site for several years without taking the slightest action to censor its availability. But now that their boy, Biden, is in the hot seat, they’re turning their social media empire into a wing of the Democratic National Committee. If Twitter (and Facebook) are looking to be regulated out of existence, they are doing a damn fine job of getting to the goal.
