With Joe Biden making a mockery of our government—and country—millions of Americans can’t wait for 2024 to arrive. And Republicans aren’t sitting on their hands. They are working overtime to prepare to take back Congress, come hell or highwater.
We’ve heard about the GOP’s plans for the 2022 midterm elections. The party is raising more money than they ever have, to support their congressional candidates. Their goal is nothing short of retaking both the House and Senate.

And with Biden blundering from one mistake to another, Republicans are in a good position to win over Americans.
But what of 2024? It will be the first chance Republicans can retake the White House. Who will be their top candidate to go up against Biden (if he’s still around)? For many months, Americans have hoped Trump would return to the presidency. A new straw poll was conducted during a conservative conference. And the results might surprise you.
The poll, conducted by the Western Conservative Summit, surveyed attendants of this weekend’s 2021 Western Conservative Summit at the Centennial Institute, Colorado Christian University’s public policy think tank…
“The top five candidates, in order of most approval to least, were: Ron DeSantis (74%), Donald Trump (71%), Sen. Ted Cruz (43%), Mike Pompeo (39%) and Sen. Tim Scott (36%),” the press release stated. “Former Vice President Pence came in tenth place.”
The names on the poll might be familiar, but their results could surprise you. Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis got the top spot in this poll, just a few points ahead of Donald Trump. Earlier in the year, Trump beat out DeSantis in another conservative poll, by a larger margin (55%-21%). Does this signify a major shift in the from Republican Party?
There was significant pressure among D.C. Republicans to dump Trump soon after he left office. Some voted against him in the left’s second impeachment attempt. Others, even former members of his administration, spoke out against him. All that was quelled after a majority of the party rallied around Trump, reaffirm his role in the party.
But this latest poll suggest that many Republicans are interested in a change. DeSantis has become a notable figure over the year. He was a standout leader during the pandemic, keeping Florida alive despite intense criticism from the media. More recently, he has led the charge among states to protect conservative values—fighting for free speech and other rights.

As a strong Trump supporter, it should come as no surprise that Republicans are eyeing him for the top spot in 2024. But, as of right now, he has not made any mention of a presidential run. Could DeSantis step away from governing Florida to run for president? If Trump doesn’t run, he might be the GOP’s best chance at flipping the White House.
I guess we’ll have to wait and see.
