The New York Times Lets Woke Mob Take Over Editorial Decisions

It’s is nearly incomprehensible to imagine that there are people out there for whom The New York Times is not left-wing enough to satisfy their journalistic standards, but this is apparently the case. Indeed, it is the case that the Times itself is staffed with hundreds of these young, woke leftists, and they were fit to be tied after the paper published an op-ed from Sen. Tom Cotton calling on Trump to “send in the troops” and quell the unrest surging through America. Times staffers took to their Twitter accounts to blast the paper for running the “fascist” column, and the newsroom broke out in “open revolt” on Thursday.

In a statement on Friday, the paper’s editors put an end to the madness, telling any of their staffers who weren’t comfortable running a variety of viewpoints on the op-ed page that they could either get with the program or find a new place to work.

Ha, no. They caved.

From the Times:

James Bennet, the editor in charge of the opinion section, said in a meeting with staff members late in the day that he had not read the essay before it was published. Shortly afterward, The Times issued a statement saying the essay fell short of the newspaper’s standards.

“We’ve examined the piece and the process leading up to its publication,” Eileen Murphy, a Times spokeswoman, said in a statement. “This review made clear that a rushed editorial process led to the publication of an Op-Ed that did not meet our standards. As a result, we’re planning to examine both short-term and long-term changes, to include expanding our fact-checking operation and reducing the number of Op-Eds we publish.”

In a statement, the Arkansas Republican responded to the Times’ turnabout, saying, “We weren’t contacted by The New York Times in advance of this statement and our editorial process was similar to our past experiences at The New York Times and other publications. We’re curious to know what part of that process and this piece didn’t meet their standards.”

But of course Tom Cotton knows as well as anyone that Bennet was making a statement that would have been a lot more honest if it had said: “Whoops, we found ourselves on the wrong side of the WOKE mob and we have to do damage control before the whole paper gets cancelled by the imbeciles we hired.”

We assume the Times will now strictly adhere to an editorial process that includes running all headlines, stories, and op-eds past social justice academics, the Democratic National Committee, and Antifa before going to print.

And here we thought that’s what they were already doing…
