If ever there was a singular moment that we could point to the moment that the American mainstream media went totally over the cliff, this past weekend would be the moment we might point to. Yes, there are plenty of other candidates: The Russia hoax, the impeachment debacle, and the hate spree against Nick Sandmann all come immediately to mind. But if you wanted to bottle undistilled, irresponsible liberal media and sell it to Ripley’s Believe It Or Not, you could do worse than to start with the media’s coverage of Trump’s COVID-19 diagnosis and subsequent hospitalization.
BREAKING: Doctors Can't Believe She Used This To Erase Her Wrinkles...
Put simply, they have lost their ever-loving minds.
Let’s count the sins, shall we?
First of all, we would be remiss if we didn’t acknowledge the overwhelming sense of “he could die” foreboding in the background of all mainstream coverage. And we wouldn’t be honest if we didn’t point out that some of these freak reporters seemed to be disguising (badly) glee at the idea that it might happen. Granted, not all of this can be chalked up to Trump Derangement Syndrome – the media being what it is, it knows to keep viewers glued to the screens by holding open the possibility that tragedy could occur at any moment. Still, it was unseemly and gross.
So, let’s talk about the “he’s sicker than he’s letting on” narrative that colored the weekend’s coverage. This was all over the place. We even saw a conspiracy theory picture running around the internet that “proved” that Trump had a secret oxygen cylinder on his person as he walked onto the Marine One helicopter on Friday evening.
This was, of course, complete nonsense…but it wasn’t much more nonsensical than the stuff they were throwing about on national television. It was on CNN, MSNBC, and the networks that we were treated to the idea that Trump’s doctors were lying to the public about his condition. The only actual SOURCE that was ever cited? Kellyanne Conway’s brat daughter. High-quality journalism here, folks.
Shall we talk about PhotoGate? Journalists made much of a couple of photographs that came out of Walter Reed, showing President Trump hard at work. Immediately, we were told that these were staged PR photos. Well…duh? Did anyone really think otherwise? Of course they were posed. But if the guy is healthy enough to put on a suit and pose for photographs, that kinda still tells us that he’s in pretty good condition, no? Furthermore, we’re pretty sure that the PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES did a little bit of work over the weekend. It’s not exactly a 9-5 job, even if you’re sick.
How about Trump’s drive to wave to supporters outside Walter Reed? You would have thought the man got out of the motorcade and did a stage dive into a crowd of fans, so extreme was the media’s reaction. One reporter accused the president of putting his supporters’ lives in danger. How he did this by waving to them from behind glass, with a mask on his face, we still don’t know.

With the media portraying the president’s illness as some sort of sick, voyeuristic endeavor, mixed with a hefty dose of karma…can anyone blame Trump for defiantly removing his mask after climbing the steps back into the White House? If this was the presidential equivalent of flipping the media the bird, it certainly had the desired reaction: The howls of Washington outrage could be heard from coast to coast.
Good. We hope it hurt them a little. Maybe if we’re lucky, some of them will get so angry that they’ll jump up and down and split themselves open like Rumpelstiltskin at the end of the fairy tale. It would be a fitting end.
