President Donald Trump is not a good guy to have as an enemy – a fact to which many men can attest. One of them is former Attorney General Jeff Sessions, who may very well occupy the #1 slot on Trump’s enemies list. No one – not Bob Mueller, not Adam Schiff, not even Nancy Pelosi – has so angered the president over the last four years. Sessions’ decision to take the AG spot, and then immediately turn around and recuse himself from any investigation having to do with Russia and the 2016 election, was and is seen by Trump as an unforgivable betrayal of confidence.

So when Sessions announced that he would run for his old seat as Alabama’s senator, Trump decided right then and there that he was going to do everything in his power to keep his old, traitorous friend from getting back to Washington. And on Tuesday, as Tommy Tuberville prevailed over Sessions in Alabama’s Republican primary runoff election, Trump made good on his vow.
“Sessions — who was fighting for his political life — was also fending off the ire of the president,” reports Fox News. “He served a dozen years as a senator from Alabama before becoming Trump’s first attorney general in 2017, but Sessions angered the president by recusing himself that year from the Russia investigation into the 2016 election.
“Tuberville — who didn’t debate Sessions — didn’t miss an opportunity to showcase Trump’s endorsement,” the report continues. “On the eve of the primary he tweeted out an audio clip of the president touting that Tuberville would have ‘a call direct line into my office.’”
Trump didn’t waste time celebrating the victory.
“Tuberville WON big against Jeff Sessions. Will be a GREAT Senator for the incredible people of Alabama,” he tweeted shortly after the race was called.
Now, we will say this: The last time Trump endorsed a Republican from Alabama, the whole thing ended in disaster. Roy Moore’s convoluted sexual history became national news, and he managed to go down in flames to Democrat Doug Jones, who has held onto the seat ever since. Jones isn’t the worst Democrat in the Senate, but he’s a reliable vote for Schumer, and that means he needs to go. Hopefully, Tommy Tuberville doesn’t have any skeletons in the closet waiting to come out.
