Stephen Colbert, host of “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,” has risen to national fame and made millions of dollars by taking shots at conservatives, Republican voters, and President Donald Trump at every opportunity.

But this time he’s taken his criticism a step further — and he claims that he doesn’t love his country anymore.

Colbert featured New Zealand’s Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern on an international version of his show, in which Ardern gave Colbert a tour of her country.

His travels took him to Wellington, New Zealand, where he met actors Lucy Lawless and Bret Mackenzie, both of New Zealand origin.

So Colbert asked them hesitantly, “Are you proud of your country here?”

“Oh yeah,” Mackenzie replied, “love that.”

“I miss that feeling,” Colbert said finally, and a laugh track sounded off in the background.

There’s no question that the remark was a dig at the Trump administration.

Of course, Colbert forgets is a living product of the “American Dream.”

He became successful in spite of his father and two of his brothers dying in a plane crash. He took a leap of faith and pursued his dreams of becoming an actor at Northwestern University. He rose through the ranks of television to eventually land his own television show on Comedy Central, and then ended up taking over the “Late Show” for David Letterman, one of America’s lifelong television icons.

To live in America is to live somewhere where your dreams are made possible no matter what. Colbert has made millions of dollars telling jokes.

And Colbert, sitting on perhaps one of the biggest platforms in Hollywood known to man, suddenly says he doesn’t feel proud of the country that gave him these opportunities.

It’s symbolic of an increasingly common phenomenon across the country.

Opponents of the president — particularly the liberal media — suffer from Trump Derangement Syndrome so much that they’re losing touch with reality.

It was only two years ago that Colbert ran a skit that insinuated that First Lady Melania Trump wanted to sleep with Canadian Prime Minister and blackface connoisseur Justin Trudeau.

That very same year Colbert also performed a segment claiming that Trump was the laughingstock of NATO after an exchange with French President Emmanuel Macron.

Not to mention the recent NATO Summit, when other liberal television hosts jumped on the opportunity to poke fun at Trump as a trio of world leaders were caught on video gossiping about him behind his back.

Perhaps Colbert doesn’t really mean it when he says he doesn’t feel proud of his country anymore.

Perhaps it was just a joke.

But it sure sounds like he thinks America is a joke.
