A San Francisco police officer blasted the city’s leftist officials and their refusal to crack down on crime for a recent string of brazen thefts.
Lt. Tracy McCray specifically called out District Attorney Chesa Boudin for ordering law enforcement not to prosecute “quality-of-life” crimes, such as drug possession and shoplifting.
A video this week showed a man with a bicycle filling a trash bag with goods from a San Francisco Walgreens as a security guard and customer watched and filmed the theft.
The man can be seen grabbing the trash bag before riding down the aisle and out of the store.
“What happened in that Walgreens has been going on in the city for quite a while,” McCray told Fox News this week. “I’m used to it. I mean we could have a greatest hits compilation of people just walking in and cleaning out the store shelves and security guards, the people who work there, just standing by helplessly because they can’t do anything.”
Walgreens said thefts in San Francisco are four times more likely than anywhere else in the country. McCray said businesses all over the city are experiencing a similar surge in crime.
“The ‘criminals first’ agenda from the district attorney [is to blame] because he’s not prosecuting any of those crimes as felonies [or] as a commercial burglary,” McCray said.
As a result, criminals realize, “This is gonna get slapped down to a misdemeanor,” she continued.
