More than a thousand right-wing supporters of President Trump rallied in northwest Oregon to demonstrate against those who have been protesting daily in Portland.

Hundreds of vehicles donning Trump gear paraded through the suburbs of Portland on Monday evening, despite warnings from the National Weather Service of an extreme wind storm, according to the Washington Post. Some of the group went on to rally in front of the state capitol in Salem, which is south of Portland.
The protest organizers said their “Oregon For Trump 2020 Labor Day Cruise Rally” was "100% safe" because "organized and local law enforcement" would be there and that they had no plans of going to the city of Portland. "Our event WILL NOT be going into Multnomah County to help keep everyone as safe," the description of the rally on Facebook said.
Protests in Portland have gone on for more than a hundred consecutive days, which began following the death of George Floyd, a black man, in Minneapolis police custody. Four officers have been fired and charged in Floyd's death. The protests in Portland began as peaceful demonstrations but have often turned violent. Law enforcement officials have been targeted by rioters during the clashes.
The protests took another turn when Aaron Danielson, a Trump supporter, was shot and killed, a little more than a week ago. Federal law enforcement officials shot and killed Michael Forest Reinoehl, 48, the man who was suspected of killing Danielson, when they attempted to apprehend him in Washington.
