In his interview with Fox News, Cruz said the Virginia gubernatorial election was “enormously consequential.” This suggests Republicans can have a big advantage going forward in the 2022 elections.

Likewise, the senator added both of the recently concluded elections, i.e Virginia and New Jersey gubernatorial races, are the reflection of what will happen next year.

While discussing the Virginia elections, Cruz asserted he endorsed Glenn Youngkin, the governor-elect of Virginia, by spending two days with him while rallying all over the state.

Similarly, Cruz added the 2022 elections would be something like 2010, where Republicans made an impressive comeback and de-seated a number of Democrat congressmembers to capture the House, while getting a significant lead in the Senate as well.

The GOP only needs a net gain of three seats in the House and one seat in the Senate to control the legislative branch of the country. Considering the current situation of Democrats’ infighting, the probability of this is at an all-time high.

GOP lawmakers ask important governors to run for Senate

Meanwhile, Rick Scott, a GOP senator from Florida, also emphasized taking back the legislative authority from Democrats in the 2022 midterm elections.

Speaking to the Republican Jewish Coalition on Friday, Scott said historical events took place in Virginia this time, which is an indication the GOP will take the Senate in the upcoming elections.

When one of the reporters at the event asked Scott whether or not it is easy to convince Governors Doug Ducey of Arizona, Chris Sununu of New Hampshire, and Larry Hogan of Maryland to run for Senate in 2022, he responded, “absolutely.”

Scott showed optimism the great people could get into the Senate races to help the GOP reclaim Congress. It is pertinent to mention here Chris Sununu is likely to announce his Senate run soon; this could ultimately help the GOP have a smoother run next year.

Ted Cruz also applauded Sununu, asking attendees in one of his meetings to say the governor is great, but he needs to run for the Senate. The GOP leader further added Sununu could get the Senate away from Democrats all by himself.

Both Cruz and Scott are eyeing the 2024 presidential election as well. Establishing a Senate majority would be Republicans’ ultimate dream, as their victories would last for a timeframe of six years.

As Cruz also ran for the presidency in 2016, he is confident this time he would be able to make it through. Most often, the runner-up of one primary gets nominated in the upcoming elections.
