Days after the U.S. Supreme Court declared New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s religious restrictions as “unconstitutional,” business owners are also stepping up and turning against the Governor’s draconian orders.

In defiance of Cuomo’s executive order, a local pub in Staten Island called Mac’s Public House declared itself as an “autonomous zone” after the NY Governor ordered it shut down. The pub, which was located at Grant City, posted a sign which reads, “!ATTENTION! We hereby declare this establishment an !!!AUTONOMOUS ZONE!!!” The establishment was referring to the iconic autonomous region which was created in Seattle by liberal activists following the violent George Floyd riots.

According to one of the pub’s owners, Danny Presti, he claimed that they are “okay” with the fines that the state had imposed for remaining open. He added that they will refuse to pay the $1,000 fines even if the state will keep on coming back. “We’re still here. We’re not letting them in,” Presti insisted.

In addition to the piles of fines that the pub had received for remaining open, the state Health Department had also issued a shutdown order while the State Liquor Authority also revoked their liquor license.

In a Youtube video, one of the co-owners, McAlarney, also challenged Cuomo’s order. He went on to say that they are not scared and will refuse to back down. McAlarney also refused to believe that the pub’s liquor license was revoked. He argued that the state had issued them a license and that the certificate is hanging on the wall. He then sent out a message to Cuomo that they would have to remove the license from his wall before he shuts down.

Other local residents have supported the business owners for standing up against Cuomo’s restrictions. One of the pub’s patrons told the New York Post that he had left a $100 tip to show his support for the business owners. He also called Cuomo’s health restrictions a “tyrannical nonsense.”

This is not the first time that business owners defied state authorities. Just last week, U.S. military veteran and gym owner, Robby Dinero, ripped a $15,000 fine in front of public health officials. At that time, Dinero, along with close to a hundred business owners, held a meeting to provide possible solutions to resolve Cuomo’s health restrictions. Suddenly, state authorities barged in on the meeting in violation of the 10-person gathering. The confrontation immediately became tense as Dinero ripped the fine in front of health officials. He also demanded authorities to present a warrant, specifically because they are invading private property.

Worse, even the New York Sheriffs had also stood against Cuomo’s order. In a lengthy letter, the NY Sheriff explained that they would refuse to enforce the Governor’s 10-person rule as it is both impractical and unconstitutional. The Sheriff also shared their confidence and trust that the people would be able to make the right decisions for themselves.
