In an interview with the UK’s Independent, acclaimed “Monty Python” director Terry Gilliam is so utterly unconcerned with being “canceled” that he comes off as almost anachronistic. Interviewer Alexandra Pollard is so taken aback by Gilliam’s loathing of today’s woke, politically correct atmosphere that she hardly knows how to respond, inadvertently proving Gilliam’s overarching point while trying to counter it. The entire interview is worth a read, if only because it’s so pathetically rare these days for anyone in Hollywood/celebrity culture to actually say these things.

In discussing a female character in his new film, Gilliam says: “In the age of #MeToo, here’s a girl who takes responsibility for her state. Whatever happened in this character’s life, she’s not accusing anybody. We’re living in a time where there’s always somebody responsible for your failures, and I don’t like this. I want people to take responsibility and not just constantly point a finger at somebody else, saying, ‘You’ve ruined my life.’”
This would have been an uncontroversial thing to say only a few years ago; to say it in today’s fraught atmosphere of “victim blaming” borders on heresy. It leads Pollard to insist that the problem isn’t women failing to take personal responsibility – it’s men who abuse their positions of power.
Gilliam easily bats back the ball.
“No,” he said. “When you have power, you don’t take responsibility for abusing others. You enjoy the power. That’s the way it works in reality.”
Of course, “reality” is not the world that the woke, oppressed, social justice warriors live in. They live in their own closed system. They make their own absurd rules. And then they expect everyone else to just turn their backs on thousands of years of history, scientific discoveries and achievement, and the very basic fundamentals of human nature. And anyone who stands up and says, “Yeah, you know, some of this is really very silly” gets fried on the altar of progress. We’ve no doubt that they’ll try to do the same with Gilliam.
He talks about a famous actress he was speaking with recently.
“She has got her story of being in the room [with Harvey Weinstein] and talking her way out. She says, ‘I can tell you all the girls who didn’t, and I know who they are and I know the bumps in their careers.’ The point is, you make choices. I can tell you about a very well-known actress coming up to me and saying, ‘What do I have to do to get in your film, Terry?’ I don’t understand why people behave as if this hasn’t been going on as long as there’ve been powerful people. I understand that men have had more power longer, but I’m tired, as a white male, of being blamed for everything that is wrong with the world,” Gilliam said.

We’re not sure we’ve ever read a paragraph so undeniably true as this one. That it IS so undeniably true and that it is so out-of-step with our modern “progressive” culture at the same time…well, that tells you everything you need to know about the SJW platform.
Maybe people like Terry Gilliam and J.K. Rowling have determined that the way out of this mess is to simply stop giving a damn about what the woke mob screams at.
