And, there we have it. Minneapolis City Council has officially, unanimously approved a new pledge that will seek to replace the city’s police department with something new. Far-left radicals in the city government are looking to replace the tried-and-tested police system with a new “public safety system” led by the community. It comes after intense riots and protests swept through the city and caused over $500 million in damage.

“The murder of George Floyd on May 25, 2020, by Minneapolis police officers is a tragedy that shows that no amount of reforms will prevent lethal violence and abuse by some members of the Police Department against members of our community, especially Black people and people of color,” the resolution reads.

The latest vote, which was unanimous, came after a previous majority vote to disband the police department was made. The vote was veto-proof, meaning unless the council members change their minds and choose to vote again, it looks like the police department in Minneapolis is on its way out.

Last week, the president of Minneapolis City Council Lisa Bender promised that the council, under her authority, would “dismantle the Minneapolis Police Department and replace it with a transformative new model of public safety.”

In media interviews, Bender has refused to explain exactly what she and her colleagues are considering putting in place of the current police department model. Bender repeatedly tells reporters that those who are concerned about who they should call in the event that somebody breaks into their home in the middle of the night should think about African Americans who are already scared the police would make things work in such a situation.

On Twitter, Minneapolis council member Jeremiah Ellison made the vague promise to “dramatically rethink” their approach to public safety.

“We are going to dismantle the Minneapolis Police Department. And when we’re done, we’re not simply gonna glue it back together,” he Tweeted. “We are going to dramatically rethink how we approach public safety and emergency response. It’s really past due.”

Again, no specific answers about who people will be able to call in the event of an emergency.
