In an interview with British personality Russell Brand, Hollywood actor Matthew McConaughey opened up about what he sees as some of the less favorable traits of his Tinseltown colleagues and the larger left-wing side of American politics. McConaughey, who has been increasingly frank about the problems plaguing the modern left, agreed with Brand that there is a tendency in Hollywood for liberals to look down their nose at conservatives, Trump supporters, and average, everyday Americans.

Brand said he was disappointed with liberals who mock and dismiss those with political opinions that differ from their own.

“Oh, they’re dumb, they’re voting for Brexit, they’re voting for Trump,” Brand said, characterizing what he called the “condemnation and criticism of ordinary working people.”

“I don’t like it,” Brand said, “and I don’t like to hear it.”

“There’s a lot on that illiberal left that absolutely condescend, patronize and are arrogant towards the other 50 percent,” McConaughey said. “I’m sure you saw it in our industry when Trump was voted in four years ago, they were in denial that was real. Some of them were in absolute denial. Now it looks like Biden’s our guy. Now you’ve got the right that’s in denial, ‘cause their side has fake news. And I understand, they’ve been fed fake news. No one knows what the hell to believe, right? So they’re putting down their last bastion of defense.”

McConaughey said that the left was only hurting itself with these constant attempts to virtue signal and play to their own side.

“This is where the left misses it for me, just as far as being a marketeer of a political side,” he said. “You say, ‘Hey, we want to get out the vote. We want people to go vote. We’re going to do a campaign to let people vote.’ I’m like, 100 percent. Yes, everyone. Is there anyone who would say no to that? That’s universal. You have 100 percent of the audience going, ‘I’m in. That’s a constitutional right as an American, I’m in. Yes!’

“And then they can’t help themselves,” he continued. “At the very end of it they go, ‘So, we don’t let those criminal bastards get back in office!’ You’re like, ‘No! Don’t say the last part! You lost 50 percent of your audience.’”

As numb and bored as we’ve become to hearing dumb actors parrot each other and put on a Big Liberal Performance every time they get the chance, it’s refreshing to hear from a celebrity who actually seems to think for themselves. You would think an artistic medium like acting would draw more independent thinkers, but apparently not. Half these actors sound more scripted in real life than they do in the movies. Good for Matthew for having the courage to throw out his lines and speak his mind.
