LA Official Votes to Ban Outdoor Dining, Immediately Goes Out to Eat

In yet another unbelievable example of liberal hypocrisy, Los Angeles County Supervisor Sheila Kuehl joyously voted Tuesday to ban outdoor dining for the purposes of stopping the pandemic. The problem? Only hours later, Kuehl went out to a Santa Monica restaurant to dine outside in violation of her own damn rules. Echoing the examples of outlandish hypocrisy we’ve seen from House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and California Gov. Gavin Newsom, Kuehl’s absurd decision puts her in the ever-growing Democrat Hall of COVID Shame.

“FOX 11 received multiple tips that shortly after her vote on Tuesday, Kuehl was seen dining outside at Il Forno Trattoria in Santa Monica, an Italian restaurant near her house that she has previously described as one of her ‘favorite’ restaurants,” reported the local news station. “When FOX 11 investigative reporter Bill Melugin stopped by the restaurant to ask about Kuehl’s visit, managers told him they ‘didn’t want to get involved,’ and they have no comment.”

Not long after being exposed, Kuehl’s office issued a statement.

“She did dine al fresco at Il Forno on the very last day it was permissible. She loves Il Forno, has been saddened to see it, like so many restaurants, suffer from a decline in revenue. She ate there, taking appropriate precautions, and sadly will not dine there again until our Public Health Orders permit,” her spokesperson said.

Oh, she LOVES the restaurant. That makes all the difference then. Was it not possible for her to put in an order for pick-up? And what’s this business about the “very last day it was permissible?” It was YOU who voted to make it impermissible! The issue isn’t whether Kuehl did something illegal, the issue is why she was in such a hurry to shut down outdoor dining if she doesn’t actually have a personal problem with it. Answer that question, spokesperson.

Why did she say, at the Board of Supervisors meeting, that dining outdoors is a “most dangerous situation”? Why did she call it a “serious health emergency”? Or, if you prefer, answer this: If you got word that a chemical plant in the area was in imminent danger of exploding and you took action to close the roads in that area…would you go for one last joyride around the perimeter the day before your rules went into effect?

“I’m like wait a minute, restaurants are so dangerous, but you’re gonna go eat in a restaurant?” a local restaurant owner asked Fox 11. “I mean it just blows me away.”

We’d say that Kuehl should be ashamed of herself, but we have the feeling she’s impervious to that emotion. Hypocrisy is a way of life for most Democrats, and this is just one more example of that simple truth.
