'Seekers of citizenship or asylum are watching to determine exactly when and how is the best time to make their move...'
Jim Clifton, CEO of Gallup polling company, warned President Joe Biden that 42 million immigrants south of Texas want to migrate to the United States, Breitbart reported.
That would roughly double the total number of illegal immigrants living in the country, by some estimates, and would raise the total US population by around 10-15%.
Clifton’s warning comes in light of the Biden administration’s failure to deal with the already unstable border crisis.
“Of those [in Central and South America] who want to leave their country permanently, 35%—or 42 million—said they want to go to the United States,” Clifton wrote. “Seekers of citizenship or asylum are watching to determine exactly when and how is the best time to make their move.”
The situation has arisen as Democrats aggressively push to instate radical open-border policies, despite a broad public opposition to mass immigration.
Americans generally dislike slackened border policies, and are especially concerned about immigrants taking American jobs.
Nevertheless, the Biden administration has failed to articulate or implement an effective immigration plan, and the federal government has done little to deport illegal immigrants in the country.
On the contrary, Biden has been accused of tacitly encouraging immigrants—including many unaccompanied minors—to make the dangerous trek by hinting that he will not strongly enforce federal immigration laws.
As a result, the border crisis has only worsened, leaving thousands of illegal immigrants with no place to go, and leaving Americans cities and states to clean up the mess.
And according to Clifton, the situation is unlikely to improve in the near future.
“How many more people are coming to the southern border? And what is the plan?” Clifton asked.
“In addition to finding a solution for the thousands of migrants currently at the border, let’s include the bigger, harder question,” he continued. “What about all of those who would like to come? What is the message to them?”
