On Sunday morning, Tesla CEO Elon Musk created a stir after expressing his frustration over the Democratic party’s politics. Referring to the hit film “The Matrix,” Musk urged people to take the “red pill” much to the chagrin of the film creator, Lilly Wachowski.

Musk referred to the film’s protagonist, Nero, in which he was asked to choose between a red pill and a blue pill. The red one will allow him to wake up from the dream-like world, and see the reality. In a political sense, conservatives view it as left-wing supporters embracing conservative views.

In a 2017 Fox News op-ed by Elizabeth Ames, the writer noted that there is a growing movement in which liberals who were “sick” of the Democrats false promises, are deliberately choosing to “take the red pill.”As Ames wrote, “People of all ages and ethnicities are posting YouTube videos describing “red pill moments”—personal awakenings that have caused them to reject leftist narratives imbibed since childhood from friends, teachers, and the news and entertainment media.”

The CEO’s succinct tweet led to presidential daughter, Ivanka Trump, to tweet a one-word reply: “Taken!” While Ivanka and Musk seemed to bond from their growing disdain for the left-wing party, the Matrix’s creator, Lilly Wachowski, was not too happy. “F*** both of you,” Wachowski replied.

Over the course of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, Musk had expressed his dissatisfaction with some of the Democratic governors’ strict stay at home orders. Last month, the CEO requested governors to re-open their states, demanding that elected officials must give the American people their freedom.

Moreover, Musk also approved an article from the Texas Tribune, which announced that the state’s restaurants, retailers, and other local businesses could re-open on Friday. Musk even went on to complement the state’s efforts.

On that same day, Musk condemned Governor Newsom’s strict stay-at-home order as “fascist.” In a report from The Verge, the CEO expressed his worry that the company was not able to resume production in the Bay Area. With countless jobs at risk, he believed that such issues should be taken as a “serious risk.” He continued by saying that Newsom’s shelter-in-place had infringed people’s constitutional rights.

Musk believed that staying at home should serve as people’s own prerogative, stating that it’s “fascist” to arrest people simply because they went out. The CEO also challenged California Interim Public Health Officer Dr. Erica Pan, who had prevented Tesla from resuming its business, through a country-wide order.
