Well, if Democrats were hoping to add some final touches of legitimacy to the 2020 election and assuage fears that a combination of fraud, the coronavirus, and mail-in balloting led to a chaotic, unreliable count, they certainly did so on Tuesday. That’s when they broke a deadlock in Wayne County, Michigan by calling members of the Board of Canvassers “racist” for refusing to certify the vote coming out of Detroit.
The members, who probably saw their careers going up in the hot flames of cancel culture, quickly decided that it wasn’t worth the fight, gave in to the mob, and certified the results of the vote.

The deadlock occurred when two Republicans on the board expressed concerns about discrepancies between the ballot counts and the voter rolls. Correctly, they observed that the tallies were off in 71% of Wayne County’s results, and they refused to certify the results until those discrepancies could be explained or resolved.
“That’s significant,” noted Trump campaign adviser Jenna Ellis. “That doesn’t matter if you’re a Democrat or a Republican. You should be concerned about it.”
The board members, Monica Palmer and William Hartmann, have won praise and acclaim from Republicans who saluted the pair for bravery in the face of overwhelming pressure. Even the president himself weighed in on their willingness to stand up for what’s right.
“Wow! Michigan just refused to certify the election results! Having courage is a beautiful thing. The USA stands proud!” Trump tweeted.
But standing up comes with a price, especially when you’re faced with a leftist machine that is willing to literally destroy your reputation, your career, and your life if you stand in the way of their “progress.”
In a Zoom meeting, poll challenger Ned Stabler said this of the canvassers: “The Trump stain, the stain of racism that you, William Hartman and Monica Palmer, have covered yourself in, is going to follow you throughout history. You will forever be known in southeastern Michigan as two racists who did something so unprecedented that they disenfranchised hundreds of thousands of Black voters in the city of Detroit.”
He was joined by Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI), who tweeted: “These two put politics above their duty to our residents. Suggesting that all of Wayne County can be certified, EXCEPT for Detroit, is horrifyingly racist and a subversion of our democracy.”

Ultimately, the Republicans buckled, though they claimed to only do so after securing a promise from the board that they will ask Michigan’s secretary of state to investigate Detroit’s election results. Maybe that is the reason why they caved. Maybe it is.
Or maybe it’s because Democrats have succeeded in upending democracy and the law by using the dirty tricks of cancel culture.
