Columnist Fired for Saying There Are Two Sexes

No one likes hypocrites. It’s one of the world’s most solid truths, just like no one likes bullies and no one likes liars. They are considered to be the scum of the earth, not trustworthy, and very, very far from being friend-like material. After all, why would you want anyone who says one thing and does another to be around you?

And yet, our great nation, or at least some part it, seems to be ok with individuals such as this. They have inundated our ruling legislature, taken over our airways, and now they even dictate to us what we can and not say, all in the name of free speech.

But as one columnist from The Denver Post just learned, what they call free speech is really just the opposite.

John Caldera has been writing as a regular columnist for the conservative-leaning Post since 2016, but this week he was terminated when he refused to be told what and how to talk about gender. He had said in a recent piece that he thought there were only two sexes. And for that, his editorial editor Megan Schrader “found my writing too insensitive.”

Caldera agreed with his editor’s opinion, saying, “And yes, it is. My column is not a soft-voiced, sticky sweet NPR-styled piece that employs the language not mandated by the victim-centric identity politics driven media.”

However, he believes, justly so, that being told that only certain viewpoints and words are allowed is a violation of free speech. In his last column, which he posted to Facebook, he wrote, “What seemed to be the last straw for my column was the insistence that there are only two sexes and my frustration that to be inclusive of the transgendered (even that word isn’t allowed) we must loser our right to free speech.”

He cites that most of this stems from the recent decision by The Associated Press to change their style guide to include or ban certain words or phrases that can be used to reference someone who is transgender, such as identity pronouns. Since this change has been made, many news outlets, including The Denver Post, have adopted the changes so as not to cause any offense in the LGBTQ community.

And, apparently, if an individual refuses to abide by this new ‘propaganda guide’ for the left, there will be consequences.

Caldera who has immense respect for the LGBT community and has advocated for them for years wants to be as inclusive as possible, but he doesn’t think we should whitewash fact and science to make people happy, and his refusal to use a pronoun that differs from someone’s actual gender is doing just that.

“To be clear I am strongly pro-gay marriage, which has frustrated many of my socially conservative friends. I have friends, family, and employees from the LGBT community. I don’t care who uses whose bathroom, what you wear, or how you identify. People from this community have rights which we must protect. But to force us to use inaccurate pronouns, to force us to teach our kids that there are more than two sexes, to call what is plainly a man in a dress, well, not a man in a dress violates our right of speech.”

And it is this belief that has gotten him in trouble.

While his editor didn’t comment directly on why he was fired, she did tell the Washington Free Beacon that he had indeed been fired. She said, “I am writing a job description as we speak to fill his position.” And she added, “I hope that conservative Colorado writers will apply knowing that we value conservative voices on our pages and don’t have a litmus test for their opinions.”

But, on the contrary, it seems that they do. Why else would Caldera have been let go? Furthermore, the fact that she didn’t mention or imply that there might be other reasons involved his firing suggests that there weren’t.

This only proves Caldera’s point, that the media is no longer “brave warriors of truth,” as they like to think of themselves, but “torchbearers for progressive ideology.” And a liberal ideology that, as William F. Buckley said, “claims to want to give a hearing to other views, but then are shocked and offended to discover that there are other views.”

And that, ladies and gentlemen, is the definition of hypocrisy.
