Kamala Harris shocked voters when she selected far-left Gov. Tim Walz as her running mate. Walz has a sketchy history, pushing radical progressive polices in Minnesota. He also sat by as protesters burned major cities during the 2020 crisis. Critics have called out his far-left policies, which make California look like Texas.

But there is more to Walz’s shady background than just Bernie Sanders-level socialism. As it turns out, he’s as dishonest as the rest of his party.
Walz has long touted his military career during campaign events. It seems he’s strongly suggested he faced combat, when saying he carried a weapon “in war.” It is possible he is hyping this up because Trump’s VP pick—JD Vance—actually served as a Marine. But not even CNN was buying Walz’s claim. And they fact-checked him on live TV.
CNN correspondent Tom Foreman delivered a fact-check Wednesday against Democratic Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz after he claimed to have carried weapons “in war.”
“Walz did make a comment speaking to a group, he’s done it a couple of times, where he has used language that has suggested that he carried weapons in a fighting situation…
There is no evidence that at any time Governor Walz was in a position of being shot at, and some of his language could easily be seen to suggest that he was.”

Walz has frequently highlighted his military background in his political career, often referencing his time in the National Guard to bolster his credentials. In a recent speech, he claimed to have carried weapons and been involved in combat-like situations during his service. These assertions were intended to underscore his leadership skills and readiness to handle national security issues.
However, CNN’s investigation into Walz’s military record paints a different picture. According to their report, Walz’s service in the National Guard did not involve carrying weapons or engaging in combat scenarios. This stark contrast between Walz’s claims and the reality of his service has raised serious questions about his integrity and honesty.
Walz is not the first Democrat candidate to misrepresent his military service. John Kerry, who ran for president in 2004, was called out for embellishing his involvement in the military during Vietnam. But Walz’s claims appear to be much worse, with some saying he’s guilty of breaking the Stolen Valor law. It is against the law for anyone to claim they served in battle when they did not. It could result in serious penalties, even jail time.

But the Harris campaign will be quick to try to sweep this under the rug. Their problem, though, is the fact that Walz uses this line in his campaign speeches. Harris will have a hard time trying to spot Walz from saying something that has propped up his career for years. It seems Walz loves to say he carried weapons “in war” while pushing for radical gun control. He is likely to keep doing this, opening the door to heavy criticism by the Trump campaign.
