President Donald Trump has maintained over the last several weeks that the results of the 2020 race were tainted by voter fraud and irregularities that, once corrected, will reveal that he was the true winner over Democrat Joe Biden. But despite the fact that the Electoral College has yet to meet and the president’s legal challenges remain ongoing in a number of states, Fox News host Chris Wallace seems determined that the race is over.

Wallace stunned fans when he interrupted Alex Azar during an interview on Fox News Sunday to insist that the Health and Human Services (HHS) secretary refer to former Vice President Biden as the “president-elect,” The Hill reported.

“It’s Mr. President-elect, sir”

Azar was apparently discussing the coronavirus pandemic and President Trump’s response to it.

“We welcome Vice President Biden to the club,” Azar began Sunday, according to The Hill. “Since the middle of April, the president’s guidelines for reopening have called for wearing masks—”

Before Azar could finish his statement, Wallace cut in: “It’s Mr. President-elect, sir.”

Azar at first ignored the interruption and went on speaking about Trump’s position on face coverings to curb the spread of COVID-19, but Wallace continued to interrupt, again demanding that Biden be called the president-elect.

After Azar finished speaking, Wallace again made his position clear. “First of all, it’s the President-Elect Joe Biden, Secretary Azar,” he declared.

A rocky relationship

For his part, Wallace has long had a contentious relationship with Trump, something has been reflected on the president’s own Twitter feed.

The Fox News personality also came under fire from conservatives for his job moderating the first presidential debate between Trump and Biden earlier this year, a debacle that Wallace blamed the president for.

“At a certain point, 45 minutes in, I called a halt to the debate for a moment and said, ‘You know, this isn’t really serving America and please stop the interruptions,'” Wallace told Bill Hemmer in October, according to Fox. “And the president said, ‘Well, why don’t you admonish him? And I said, ‘Because you’re doing a lot more of the interrupting, Mr. President.'”

Wallace compared his preparation for the debate to baking “this beautiful, delicious cake” that Trump then “put his foot in,” an experience he characterized as “frustrating.” And it appears the Fox host never really got over it.
