Democratic Governor of Michigan, Gretchen Whitmer, is building a wall around her official residence to protect her own safety, while maintaining her strong opposition to President Donald Trump’s wall on the southern border.
Detroit News reported how Whitmer is building a new wall, which will cost $1.1 million of taxpayer money, to protect her safety at a time when the American public is at greater risk as a result of far-left riots.

Tiffany Brown, a spokeswoman for Whitmer, told the news outlet that it was simple “routine maintenance and upgrades” which are “needed to ensure the safety, security and protection of any sitting governor and the first family.”
Well, it must be nice for Governor Whitmer to have her personal safety guaranteed. American living in border towns in the south, where President Trump’s wall has not yet been built, can’t say the same.
President Donald Trump famously faced setback after setback on the construction of his wall, before finally successfully using defense funds to begin construction.
Whitmer has strongly opposed the building of a wall on the southern border, saying in 2017 that it would be “costly and ineffective.”
Does that mean her expensive wall around her home will be ineffective, too?
Then, in a tweet, she complained that the wall would cost billions and asked people to “think how many kids that would educate, how many roads, bridges and pipes it would fix.”
$40 BILLION for the wall. Think how many kids that would educate, how many roads, bridges and pipes it would fix. https://t.co/R9HaqLAsMZ

$1.1 million could probably go a long way in supporting local police officers dealing with surging Antifa and Black Lives Matter violence.
Spokeswoman Tiffany Brown said that the renovations at Whitmer’s residence were recommended by the Michigan State Police. A spokesperson for the police said that they wouldn’t comment on specific threats but that they are “constantly reviewing security protocols.”
In comparison, Republican Governor of South Dakota, Kristi Noem, announced in August that she would be updating a security fence around her property amidst increased threats from far-left agitators. It would cost $400,000 but unlike Whitmer plans to offset the costs through some private fundraising.
